Official Statement: NaAC Congratulates Mayor-Elect Farkas, Support for Calgary’s Disability Community

The National accessArts Centre (NaAC) extends its sincere congratulations to Mr. Jeromy Farkas on becoming Mayor-elect of the City of Calgary.

Throughout a highly contested campaign, Mr. Farkas took the time to meet with NaAC staff and artists—as well as members of Calgary’s broader disability community—to better understand the aspirations and challenges faced by Calgarians living with disabilities. His openness to listen and engage was deeply appreciated.

During multiple public forums and within his arts policy platform, Mr. Farkas referenced the work of the NaAC and our ongoing challenges related to the development of our accessible arts campus in West Hillhurst. We look forward to working collaboratively with Mayor-elect Farkas and the newly elected Council to address these challenges and to strengthen Calgary’s leadership in accessibility, inclusion, and the arts.
