artShare 2.0

artShare 2.0 is coming back this summer as a continuation of the program that intends to provide NaAC artists with auxiliary professional training to further develop their skills outside of the NaAC community. If you wonder what it’s like to be a professional artist in Calgary and want to expand your artistic vision beyond the NaAC, then artShare 2.0 might be for you.

During this eight (8) week program, we will be discussing:

  • Fair payment practices (how much should I get paid for my artwork?)
  • Critical thinking (how can I get better at communicating a message through my art, and how do other artists do it?)
  • Portfolio development (how to decide which pieces best represent what I want to express through my art)
  • And exposure to local, national and international artists.

This program is intended for artists who enjoy thinking and looking at art as much as they do making it. While this program is not focused on art-making itself, creativity and critical thinking will be key. artShare 2.0 will be divided into field trips and in-person sessions at the studio. We will explore what it’s like to be an artist outside the NaAC. Toward the end of the eight (8) weeks, the participating artists will decide upon a final project that will put to practice the skills learned on the field trips and sessions. This could be a curatorial project, a publication, a presentation, an artist talk, etc.

HOST: National accessArts Centre

LOCATION: NaAC and Field Trips (TBD)

Thursdays | July 14 – September 1, 2022

TIME: 3:30 pm – 5 pm MST

What does artShare2.0 involve?

Participating in the eight (8) week program (from July 14- Sept 1, 2022) includes in-person sessions at the studio and 3 field trips. Before signing up, please make sure transportation isn’t a problem since most of the content will be based on these field trips. Artists are required to provide their own transportation to and from the local art centres that we will visit.

Who is artShare 2.0 right for?

NaAc artists who are interested in learning about professional artistic practices outside of the studio. Artists who enjoy reflecting and writing about their own art and other artists’ art and enjoy visiting art centres.

Is there a cost to participate?

No. You are only expected to provide rides to and from the art centres we will visit.

How can I apply?
