About Empathy Week 2022
Go-go dance first became popular in the 1960s and its name was derived from the French term à gogo which means ‘in abundance’. Facilitated by National accessArts Artist and Ensemble Member, Alicia Morrison, and Performing Arts Assistant, Chawna Exner, this class aims to support participants in discovering various versions of classic Go-go movements that feel best in their own bodies and use them in dance combinations. If you’re looking for some gratitude, good vibes, and a whole lot of Go-go, this class is for you!
What: Gratitude GoGo
Where: Decidedly Jazz – 111 12 Avenue SE, Calgary, AB, T2G 0Z9
When: Monday, June 6, 2022
Time: 1 pm – 2 pm MST
About Your Facilitators
Chawna Exner With a background largely in the styles of contemporary, jazz, and hip hop, Chawna has had a life-long passionate relationship with dance! After pursuing training in the University of Calgary Dance Program, Chawna crossed paths with the art of Burlesque, and has since built a career in the art form under the stage name Eva Angel. In 2018, Chawna began work with accessible dance company, Momo Movement (now part of the National accessArts Centre), and has sought to discover ways to bring equity and accessibility into dance ever since. She currently resides as Artistic Director for Blissful Dance, and Performing Arts Assistant for the National accessArts Centre.
Alicia Morrison Hailing from Calgary, Alberta, Alicia began her training in dance at the age of 8, taking classes from various companies, including Momo Movement. She loves that dance allows you to move to different rhythms, use imagination, and show expression. In 2018, Alicia joined Momo’s (now NaAC’s) Performance Ensemble after being discovered in class by Momo’s Artistic Director at the time. Since then, she has had the pleasure of performing in various professional stage productions, including multiple showings of ‘The Mind Palace’. She has also resided as a dance instructor with Momo and the National accessArts Centre (NaAC) since 2019. Her goals for the future include creating her own songs and movies, and returning to the stage soon, a place she has always had a passion for!
