Earlier this week, the Government of Canada, through the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund, committed $750,000 in funding towards the revitalization of the old Scouts Hall, soon to be transformed into the Trico Communities Accessible Arts Centre – home of the National accessArts Centre’s Visual Arts programs and administrative offices.
“Along with the Government of Canada’s investment of $8.2M towards the construction of our new, multidisciplinary learning venue, this additional funding to support the City of Calgary’s revitalization of the old Scouts Hall means that our federal government’s investment totals more than $9M – the largest investment to advancing the disability arts ever recorded in our country. We are truly grateful for the Government of Canada’s commitment to inclusion and diversity within our arts and culture ecosystem. When completed, our new accessible arts learning campus will transform the lives of countless Canadian artists living with disabilities – and position Calgary as the national capital of our disability arts movement.” – Jung-Suk Ryu, President and CEO
Out of the total $6.1M, the City of Calgary has committed $4.5M, and the NaAC has – to date – raised $1.55M to support the City’s efforts.
