The National accessArts Centre (NaAC) extends its sincere congratulations to Mr. Myke Atkinson on his election as Councillor for Ward 7—home to the NaAC’s forthcoming multidisciplinary arts learning campus in West Hillhurst.

While our relationship with the previous Ward 7 Councillor was often strained, and we did not feel that the aspirations of our organization or the broader disability and arts communities were adequately represented, we are hopeful that this new chapter will mark a meaningful change.

During the campaign, Mr. Atkinson took the time to engage directly with NaAC staff, artists, and community members, and he consistently voiced his support for our project—the largest arts infrastructure investment north of the river. The new campus will be a landmark for Ward 7 and the communities of West Hillhurst, Sunnyside, and beyond.

We look forward to Councillor-elect Atkinson’s leadership in bringing the City of Calgary back as a genuine and collaborative partner in realizing our long-held vision: a world-class, accessible arts campus serving Calgary’s artists and artists with disabilities.
