Ottawa’s Ashley Hiscott awarded the 2024 Won Lee Prize, Canada’s highest honour in the visual arts for the disability community

TORONTO – The National accessArts Centre (NaAC), Canada’s largest disability arts organization, is pleased to announce the winner of the 2024 Won Lee Prize – Ashley Hiscott from Ottawa, Ontario. The Won Lee Prize, administered by the NaAC, is Canada’s largest cash prize awarded to a Canadian visual artist with a disability.

“Ashley is more than an artist. She is the quintessential storyteller who pulls people into her personal stories and perspectives. In many ways, she embodies exactly what we should expect from a visual artist – someone who is transparent, free-spirited, and unabashedly shares her positivity with others through her work.” – Jung-Suk (JS) Ryu, President and CEO, NaAC

“I would like to congratulate Ashley for winning the 2024 Won Lee Prize. Her work very much represents the spirit of my late husband, Won Lee, who found such joy and healing through the arts, and was generous in sharing his creativity with others. I am so proud to see my husband’s legacy being shared through artists like Ashley.” – Hyon Chu Lee, Chair, Won Lee Prize; Vice Chair, NaAC Board of Directors

““I am so happy and thankful to be the winner of the Won Lee Prize! This makes me smile so much, and my heart feels very proud.” – Ashley Hiscott, Winner of the 2024 Won Lee Prize

The announcement was made on October 17, 2024 at an event hosted by the NaAC at St. James Cathedral in Toronto.
