Studio Visit: Alicia Barbieri
Thursday, August 12, 2021 NaAC Studio Visits are our way of creating new opportunities for NaAC artists to engage in creative conversations with other practicing artists from the comfort of our homes. Participating presenters will walk us through their studio practice, methods, materials, inspirations, and everything in-between. Studio Visits will be an hour in length and take place online via Zoom. Conversations will be casual, and NaAC artists are encouraged to ask as many questions as they would like!

Alicia Barbieri is an interdisciplinary artist from Southern Alberta. Her practice is photo-based, expanding into textile, performance, video, and installation. She completed her BFA at the University of Lethbridge in 2020 and is currently an MFA candidate at the University of Guelph.
Alicia explores healing processes after trauma. While current education, medical, and social systems prioritize efficiency, deeper healing requires an intimate type of care and understanding, only acquired through time. Alicia aims to deconstruct society’s pressures on the body and mind through meditative time-based practices and photographs to reclaim her time and imagery. Her practice has evolved into a form of self-care, and through interactive installation, she aims to extend this care to her community. She aims to share the strength in tenderness, comfort, and intimacy.
