Alicia Morrison and Re Parsons
This class is for children ages 6 – 8.
In this inclusive dance class led by both the National accessArts Centre and the City of Calgary, children will explore creative movement through playful prompts and activities in a welcoming, non-judgmental space. If a child benefits from one-to-one support, the child’s parents/support persons are welcome to participate to help ensure a positive experience. Led by Alicia Morrison, a teacher with lived experience, and assisted by Re Parsons of the NaAC, kids will experience:
- narrative and thematic movement using props and small handheld instruments
- fundamental gross motor movements
- mind-body connection through dance, such as strength, coordination, balance, and rhythm
- social connections and exploring emotional expression through movement
- Short, supervised, mid-class break to be utilized by participants as needed
Prerequisite: None
Please bring: Comfortable and moveable clothing, dancing shoes or bare feet, water, any sensory items your dancer may need (ex. noise-cancelling headphones, a crunchy snack)
Forms/waivers: On the City of Calgary Live and Play website, please fill out the Access Needs Form (for all dancers) – information that will help us tailor programming to the children in the studio
